Monate lightweight Men's 4x wins Italian Championships

Paolo Caprioli, Riccardo Valena, Nicola Maino and Marco Passadori brought home the gold at the 2004
Italian Championships on September 12th after a psychologically tough season without races for the months of July and August.
A high level of expertise, an excellent team rapport and good coaching made the foursome a winner.
Each of the athletes has a golden track record in his pocket.
Stroke seat
Paolo Caprioli
brought home silver at the 2002 Italian Championships (first place for clubs)
at the stroke of the 8+ LW boat, and bronze at the stroke of the 2003 LW 8+ (second place for clubs). He also
stroked several races in the 8+ and 4x LW categories during the "Gran Fondo" winter seasons of 2002 and 2003, bringing the
gold home for both these years for both categories!
Riccardo Valena, almost always at number
2 seat for the prestigious boats mentioned above, is an extremely dedicated and strong athlete,
whose impressive strength keeps gives any boat he sits in an incredible
drive.
Nicola Maino , also known as the "Vecchio Lupo" - or "old wolf" in Italian - since his win
at the Lombardy Indoor Championships in 2003
(a name which subtlely brings attention to his
somewhat .. advanced age) has an incredible track record of winnings. Nicola trains early mornings in his single, and "unwinds"
while training with the boys in the afternoons!
At four seat sat the technically perfect
Marco Passadori. His experience in the Military Marine rowing team, his knack for perfection, and his excellent sense of humour
(despite the Military experience..?) made this future engineer a catalyst for the fluidity of the boat (in both
a litteral and figurative sense!).
Though the four have been athletes at Monate for years, never before had they come together for such an important race.
Thank you for the win, boys. We look forward to 2005!

The club's annual "social races" took place this month, in a whirlwind of activities. The event was organised by the Club
council members, with the indispensible help of Elena Aresu. The days events consisted of mixed races
and more importantly... OF EATING!!!
